The financial secretary receives and records gifts to the church ensuring that the process is smooth, well-organized, well-supervised and has the required internal controls. Financial giving can be a very sensitive issue so confidentiality must be maintained. The financial secretary is responsible for securing, supervising and training volunteer money counters.
The duties include accurately recording of the gifts into the accounts designated by giver, ensuring deposits are made in a safe and timely manner and reporting to the Treasurer, Finance Committee and Stewardship committee.
Additionally advises the pastor when there are significant giving changes by individual members, so the pastor can be sensitive to pastoral care needs.
Finally, annual reports must be made to the members as required by the IRS.
